STAY: Wired Hotel, Asakusa, Tokyo
After booking a string of cheaper, budget hotels, Kevin and I decided to “splurge” (we used Qantas points + paid a little extra for the difference) on one of our last stays and booked this ‘penthouse’ room at Wired Hotel in Asakusa, Tokyo.
Although a decent walk from the station, Wired Hotel is in a great central location, practically right next to Sensō-ji Temple. It can be found in a quiet alleyway that’s easy to miss. They have a lot of private rooms in addition to shared dorm rooms, so they’re popular among a mix of older tourist couples and younger backpackers.
The room was perfect, and we loved everything about it, but… the service of one particular non-Japanese staff at reception was pretty disappointing. After being greeted with amazing Japanese hospitality for the past 2+ weeks, it was a bit unexpected to be greeted with an unfriendly attitude (we were even ignored for a few minutes when we arrived).
As beautiful as this hotel and room is… I wouldn’t return. Friendly customer service is really important to me, and if I’m made to feel unwelcome or unwanted, it’s a deal breaker. Also I loved the concept of their breakfast menu, but Kevin and I unfortunately didn’t enjoy that either.
It’s one of our rare negative stays. Keep that in mind as I now proceed to show you the beautiful room haha.
